Dutch painter shows in Espinho

Rolf van Gelder at "Proposta"

There is at "Proposta", in Espinho, an exhibition of Rolf van Gelder. The Dutch painter is having a fantastic biography, which justifies his presence at our country. "Proposta" had already a good knowledge of his work, being not difficult to bring van Gelder to show in Espinho. The style of the painter is very powerful, working about his own emotions, reflecting a strong feeling. The works at the exhibition are using several materials, assemblage, acrylic, pastel and charcoal.

Rolf van Gelder said to "MV" that his works are his way to explore his own emotions. Normally he works with computers and with objects related with logic, being the painting a way to get out of his routine. The Dutch painter says that he gets inspired from the music he listen, from his trips, from the people he meets, but mainly, from the emotions he feels while creating.

Rolf van Gelder was born in 1958 in Eindhoven, in Holland. He is a self-taught artist. In spite of his full and excited life he continues to live at his home town.

At his biography, we can also see, that he his having several skilness. Rolf started his life studying and teaching classic guitar. Afterwards he wrote several music pieces for guitar. Later on he studied electrical engineer at the University of Technology. Actually, one of his professional activity is at the computer systems, where he created several sites for the Internet (he co-operated with Art beyond the borders, Cage, Educational Information Eindhoven University of technology, Electric Paintbrush and Gallery Pennings Eindhoven) and created several software programs.

He participated also in many international art projects, has been member of the jury of the EVENTA-3 International Art Exhibition, in Sweden. In 1997 he made an art book called "Open your cage and fly..."

Some of his paintings belong to collections in countries like USA, Holland, Belgium and Canada. As a last reference of his extensive biography, which is not entirely mention in this article, Van Gelder is member of the International Art Beyond the Borders. We leave here the invitation for all Espinho citizens who admire art to see the exhibition of the Dutch artist." M.B.

English translation of the Dutch text:

'In fact I'm a very introverted person', says artist Rolf van Gelder (1958, Eindhoven). 'In "normal" life I'm mainly busy with logic, computers, things like that.' In his role as an artist he tries to eliminate logic as much as possible and to free the other side of his personality. His inspirations are formed by elementary emotions like, love, anger, fear, jealousy and despair. He tries to visualize these by means of vivid colors and powerful lines.
